Young Athletes Summer Program in Lodi: Build Strength, Speed, and Discipline (Ages 8+)

Summer in Lodi is long. Twelve weeks of late mornings, screen time, and a slow drift away from the conditioning your athlete built up during the season. By the time fall sports start back up, the gap is real — slower, weaker, less confident than they were in May. That's the problem the Young Athletes Program at Sierra Tango Fitness was built to solve.
This is a structured summer strength and conditioning program for young athletes ages 8 and up, running Monday through Thursday, June 1 through July 24 at 9:30am and July 27 through August 20 at 3:30pm, at our gym at 413 E Lockeford St in Lodi. Four days a week, unlimited classes, a real coach, and a real plan — so your athlete walks into the fall season stronger and sharper than they walked out.
Who the Program Is Built For
The Young Athletes Program is designed for novice, beginner, and intermediate athletes who want to get stronger, faster, and more prepared for their sport. You do not need to be advanced to start. Most of our young athletes show up never having touched a barbell. That's the point — we teach the basics correctly the first time.
It's a great fit for multi-sport athletes who need an offseason base, kids who want to fill the summer with something productive, and parents who want their child off the couch and into a real environment with a coach who holds the standard.
What Your Athlete Will Learn
The program focuses on four pillars — the same four we list on the program page:
- Basic weightlifting and compound movements. Squat, hinge, press, and pull — taught with safe technique and age-appropriate progressions.
- Body awareness, mobility, and agility. Movement skills that translate to every sport: speed, balance, coordination, and control.
- Leadership skills and respect. Show up on time. Work hard. Support your teammates. Habits that build athletes — and adults.
- Discipline and confidence. Structured training that builds self-trust through earned progress, not empty hype.
We're not running a fitness class for kids. We're teaching young athletes how to train — the way they'd be coached at a strong high school or college program, scaled appropriately for age and experience.
Why Strength Training Is Safe (and Important) for Young Athletes
A lot of parents still believe the old myth that lifting "stunts growth" in kids. It doesn't. Modern guidance from organizations like the National Strength and Conditioning Association supports supervised, technique-first resistance training for young athletes as one of the best ways to build durability, reduce injury risk, and improve sport performance.
The key word is supervised. That's what separates a structured program with a coach from a kid wandering around a commercial gym copying TikTok workouts. In the Young Athletes Program, every rep is coached. We don't load weight your athlete can't move with great technique.

Meet Coach Lex
The program is led by Coach Alexis "Lex" Acosta. Lex is a lifelong athlete — volleyball, basketball, swimming, and water polo — who rediscovered her passion for fitness at Sierra Tango Fitness and now coaches members through real, lasting transformations. She brings the same structure and intensity to the Young Athletes Program: high standards, clear expectations, and genuine investment in every athlete that walks through the door.
