Memorial Day 2026 in Lodi: Honor the Fallen, Then Get to Work

Memorial Day isn't about mattress sales, three-day weekends, or the unofficial start of summer. It's a day set aside to remember the men and women who died serving in the United States Armed Forces — people who never came home so the rest of us could. At Sierra Tango Fitness in Lodi, that meaning sits at the center of who we are.
Our name, Sierra Tango, comes from the military phonetic alphabet — "S" and "T" for Strength and Tenacity. The gym was built by people who believe physical training is a form of respect: respect for your body, respect for your family, and respect for the people who gave everything so we'd have the freedom to train at all.
Why We Train on Memorial Day
Across the country, gyms run "hero workouts" on Memorial Day — brutal, intentional sessions named after fallen service members. The most well-known is Murph, named after Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005. It's a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and another 1-mile run — all in a 20 lb weight vest.
The point isn't the workout. The point is what happens during the workout. You suffer voluntarily. You feel uncomfortable on purpose. And while you're hurting, you think about somebody who paid a far higher price than a sore body. If you've never done one, our full breakdown of the Murph workout is a good place to start.
Memorial Day at Sierra Tango Fitness
We open the floor on Memorial Day for members and guests who want to train together. You don't have to be in elite shape. We scale the workout — half reps, no vest, partner versions, modified movements — so anyone willing to show up can participate. Check our current class schedule for Memorial Day hours and the hero workout time.
If you've never trained at our Lodi gym before, Memorial Day is one of the best days of the year to walk through the door. The room is full, the energy is real, and nobody cares what you can or can't do — they care that you showed up.
A Simple Memorial Day Workout You Can Do Anywhere
If you can't make it into the gym, you can still honor the day. Here's a scalable version of a hero-style workout you can do at home, at a park, or on the road in Lodi:
- 800m run (about half a mile)
- 50 push-ups (scale to knees or incline)
- 100 air squats
- 50 sit-ups
- 800m run
Time yourself. Don't rush. Halfway through, when it gets hard, remember why you're doing it.
Honor Them by Living Strong
One of the quiet truths of Memorial Day is this: the best way to honor the people who died is to actually live. Be present with your kids. Be useful to your community. Take care of the body you were lucky enough to keep. Don't waste the years they didn't get.
If this Memorial Day is the moment you decide to stop sleepwalking through your health, we'd be honored to help. Our flagship programs — from the Elite Transformation system to Stronger Together group training — are built for adults who are ready to stop drifting and start training with intention.
